Craft and design: Map it out

In this unit of work, the children explored and created maps through various art forms, including drawing, working in relief, printmaking, and designing stained glass. The lessons helped develop skills in sorting, designing, and evaluating art, encouraging the children to present and discuss their creations in a class gallery setting. They created their own compositions using organic and irregular shapes.

Painting and mixed media: Life in colour

The children focused on primary and secondary colours, colour mixing and creating different textures using different tools. They covered collage techniques, and were encouraged to experiment with materials and evaluate their artistic choices and aims to develop their understanding of colour, texture, and composition in art

Sculpture and 3D: Clay houses

The children shaped and decorated a clay pinch pot and a tile with features of a house. They used clay to practice the 'scratch and slip' techniques to join pieces together and decorated clay surfaces by pressing tools into it.
