2025/2026 Tree planting at Stand Road Park with Friends of Stand Road Park
Friends of Stand Road Park were formed in 2002 at a time when the park was neglected and under used. After community consultation, a plan was developed for the future and funding secured for projects to improve the park. These have included a new entrance, skate park, play equipment, a renovated pavilion and most recently a new link pathway.
Twenty-three years later, a thriving community of volunteers maintain the site through improvements that increase biodiversity and promote wildlife habitats, all while ensuring the maintenance of public access and facilities throughout the park.
In November, we will visit the park to help volunteers plant new trees and learn about the site and their ongoing conservation projects. This visit will launch our social action project linked to our Global Goal: Life on Land, which focuses on protecting ecosystems, restoring natural habitats and promoting sustainable use of green spaces.
We also hope to return to the park in the summer, at the end of the academic year, to see how the site has developed and how our tree-planting efforts have contributed to its growth.
